  • Prep Time 10 minutes
  • Cook Time 25 minutes
  • Yield 6 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups masa harina (corn flour)
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt optional
  • Vegetable or canola oil for frying
  • Optional toppings: refried beans, shredded lettuce, cheese, salsa, etc.

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix masa harina, salt, and warm water until a dough forms.
  2. Knead the dough for a few minutes until firm and not sticky. Shape it into a ball and let it rest for 20 minutes under a damp towel.
  3. Divide the dough into 12 to 14 portions and shape each into a golf ball-sized ball.
  4. Press each ball between plastic wrap into a disc about ¼ to ½ inch thick.
  5. Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat, checking if it's ready by seeing if a drop of water sizzles.
  6. Fry the discs one or two at a time for about 1 to 2 minutes per side until crispy. Transfer to paper towels to drain oil.
  7. Allow to cool slightly, then press the edges up to form a shallow rim.
  8. Top with your desired toppings and serve immediately.

Notes

Ensure the dough is well-kneaded for the right texture.
Use a thermometer to check oil temperature for frying.
Feel free to be creative with toppings based on personal preference.
